Health, Healing and Fitness

Health, healing, and fitness form an interconnected triad that empowers the body to thrive, recover, and perform at its peak through intentional lifestyle choices rooted in nutrition, movement, rest, and stress management. Robust health emerges from balanced macronutrients, micronutrients, and hydration that fuel cellular repair and immune function, while regular physical activity—spanning cardiovascular exercise, resistance training, and flexibility work—strengthens muscles, bones, and the cardiovascular system, reducing risks of chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension.

Healing accelerates when inflammation is minimized through anti-inflammatory foods (berries, fatty fish, turmeric), adequate sleep (7–9 hours nightly), and mindful practices like meditation or yoga that lower cortisol. Fitness, beyond aesthetics, enhances mental clarity via endorphin release and neuroplasticity, fostering resilience against stress and injury. Together, these elements create a virtuous cycle: a fit body heals efficiently, a healing body sustains health, and vibrant health unlocks higher levels of fitness, ultimately extending both lifespan and quality of life.

TED TALK: Coaches, Parents, Girls and Women, a paradigm shift in the world of health and nutrition has begun! Why do women feel flat despite eating well and working out the same way as their male colleagues? The answer lies in gender bias. Historically, sports nutrition studies were conducted on men and the results assumed to be the same for women. Stacy explains why this this presumption is not correct. Her talk will empower us all to ask questions of the sports nutrition status quo.

Fat Chance By Robert H. Lustig

“Fat Chance, Beating the Odds Against Sugar, Processed Food, Obesity, and Disease was written by Robert Lustig, M.D. He examines the science of obesity to determine the role that our current diet (especially too much sugar and too little fiber) plays in weight gain and disease. He presents the scientific evidence for the toxicity of sugar and the disastrous effects of modern industrial food on the hormones that control hunger satiety, and weight. I found it to be one of the best books I’ve read on the relationship between diet and health. It has motivated me to be more discerning and diligent about what I choose to eat”.
